An Enlightening Inaugural “Industry Insights”: Innovation & Digital
The new “Industry Insights” speaker series opened with “Innovation & Digital”, held in the CUHK Business School Town Centre on 19 July. Organised by the Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office, the event attracted over 40 alumni and students to listen to business leaders and MBA alumni Mr. Ivan Chan, Managing Director of Accenture Digital, and Mr. Paul Sin, Partner at Deloitte China. The experts shared their professional paths towards developing expertise in innovation and digital, and analysed topical issues across industries through the prism of their real-life experiences. Tencent Alumni Reconnect Over Hotpot
On 10 July, 13 alumni gathered for a scrumptious hotpot reunion dinner in Shenzhen. Most attendees were MBA Programme in Finance (FMBA) graduates and senior staff of Tencent across administration, business investment, product development and fintech. Hosting the event, Prof. Liu Ming, Director of the FMBA Programme, remarked that it was a valuable opportunity to connect, while Ms. Florence Lai, Alumni and Corporate Affairs Director, said she looked forward to building an even closer Shenzhen alumni network. A Recipe for Sweet Success
Ankrish Gidwani (BBA in Hotel and Tourism Management 2017) has been running his Baking Maniac business with his mother since he was 12. This experience led him to CUHK Business School’s Hotel and Tourism Management Programme, during which, he says, internships at The Upper House’s Café Gray and the Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong were life-changing. Today, from his bakery in Wong Chuk Hang, Ankrish creates bespoke cakes, cupcakes and cake pops, and also hosts workshops. His ultimate goal is to open a retail outlet. Securities, and Fintech’s Transformative Power
Fintech has brought us mobile payments, cloud computing, blockchain and big data. And the scorching summer heat did not deter over 100 alumni and securities friends from attending “Fintech-led Revolution in Traditional Securities”, on 10 June at the Shenzhen International Innovation Centre. The event was organised by the FMBA Alumni Association, with Mr. Su Xusheng (FMBA 2017), Assistant General Manager of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, opening the seminar as host. Guest speaker Dr. Yang Long, Vice President of GF Securities Co. Ltd, discussed the transformation of securities retailers, providing an in-depth introduction to his company’s strategic plan, and citing successful American examples such as Goldman Sachs and Walmart. The “DROP” Programme Showcases Inspiring Business Synergies
Supporting its social contribution pillar, the EMBA Alumni Association in 2018 launched the “DROP” programme. Its aim is to inspire businesses to drop old practices and mindsets, to bring about sustainable gains and create shared value for the community. Over the past few months, the EMBA Alumni Association partnered with corporates and social enterprises to hold three cross-sector workshops, attracting over 100 attendees. Distinguished speakers shared their experiences of achieving synergy – namely, Cathay Pacific x Rooftop Republic, General Mills x iBakery, and HKT (Tap & Go) x HEYCOINS. Read the full article here.

CUHK MBA Alumnus’ Start-Up to Watch
Inspired by the CUHK MBA’s entrepreneurship curriculum, alumnus Mr. Kevin Li Yatong in 2016 co-founded VoiceAI Technologies Co. Ltd, a start-up dedicated to research and development in voice AI technology. While VoiceAI’s main market is mainland China, the company has also developed patented technology and a pension fund verification system for the Indonesian government. On 6 June, Mr. Li and his business partner met with a group of Hong Kong journalists on campus. The pair explained their start-up’s voice AI technology and conducted a demonstration. Read more here.
