Brothers Partner Up in New Venture Making Workspaces Fun
Brothers Theo and Jackel Cheung, both CUHK EMBA graduates, founded the coworking spaces and BrewMasters in Hong Kong. They were first inspired by the idea when running a property business in Australia. After returning to Hong Kong, they enrolled at CUHK together to expand their expertise, and joined the workspace revolution soon after graduating. In Sheung Wan, has cafés, climbing walls and game rooms encouraging a healthy work-life balance. Connecting with Old Friends and Making New Ones at the MBA Party
MBA alumni, students and faculty members turned out in force for the MBA Summer Meet-up Happy Hour at Liberty Exchange Kitchen & Bar on 29 May. The cheerful crowd was greeted by Ms. Stephanie Villemagne, Associate Dean for Graduate Programmes and Director of MBA programmes, before mingling over drinks and nibbles. A Lunch-time Look at Big Data
A recent lunch gathering organised by the Ontario Alumni Network drew a crowd of 40 alumni all keen to learn about the hot topic of the day – big data. Our expert speaker was Mr. Jimmy Ma, MBA alumnus and part of the Welbilt team. Mr. Ma talked about how big data exploded onto the scene and shared real life examples of how it is being harnessed in various industries. His insights were very well received and a lively discussion ensued, followed by mingling over dim sum delicacies. Click here to read the news.
FMBA Alumni and Students Take the Future for a Spin
On 23 May, FMBA Automobile Association members got a taste of the future during a visit to the Baidu Autonomous Driving Experience Station, where they stepped into the L4-class Apollo for a driverless spin around the block. Mr. Shang Guobin, Director of Baidu’s Intelligent Driving Group and General Manager of Integrated Management and Cooperation Development, kindly shared in-depth insights into the company’s cutting-edge technology and the autonomous-driving landscape of the future. CUHK’s MSc in Finance Honoured in Financial Times Ranking
CUHK’s MSc in Finance featured prominently in this year’s Financial Times Global Master’s in Finance Pre-experience Ranking. The programme moved up four places globally to 49th, making it one of the top five master’s in finance programmes in Asia. What’s more, it was named one of the top 10 master’s in finance programmes for options and futures. How One Man’s Mindset is Inspiring Him to Change the World
Kelvin Wu (BBA 1994) is the founder and principal partner of AID Partners Capital Ltd (AID), which famously acquired HMV and brought it back to life. Its portfolio also includes Legendary Pictures and several prominent tech start-ups. In an effort to “steer the health industry on the right path”, Kelvin is now switching focus to health tech. AID recently acquired GeneSort, which focuses on less invasive cancer diagnosis and treatment, and invested in Intarcia, which automated medication for diabetics. Kelvin attributes his positive world view to his days at CUHK, which have proven a great asset. Read the article here.
