CBK Luncheon Series Focuses on the Impact of CSR
Don’t miss “How CSR Changes Our Behavior and Society,” the latest edition of the China Business Knowledge @ CUHK Luncheon Series, on 15 May! Prof. Cao Jie, Associate Professor of the Finance Department, will discuss various issues related to corporate social responsibility (CSR), including its effect on institutions’ investments. Growing as Fast as Bamboo: A Changing Career Journey
A native of Jiangxi, Fu Jin (EMBA (Chinese) Programme, 2013) has watched his career grow like bamboo. After working in the world of finance, he earned an EMBA and founded K12 Education and F&Z Group, learning-focused startups, as well as Red Star Source Technology, which specialises in gadgets. His time at CUHK awakened a passion for entrepreneurship and doing good for the society. He now hopes to enter the medical field and help China care for its ageing population. CSR Sustainability Conference Scheduled for May
The 11th annual CUHK MBA CSR Conference “CSR : Sustaining CSR Indefinitely” will be held at the Cheng Yu Tung Building on 8 May. As Asia’s largest student-led meeting of its kind, the conference has a storied history of preparing talented MBA students to adopt a global perspective while striving to make the world more sustainable. NGO professionals and industry practitioners will take part in this full-day event to discuss the critical issues around corporate social responsibility. Please register here.
Hundreds Attend China Angel Investor Conference

The China Angel Investor Conference took place on 24 April at the Lee Shau Kee Building. With the theme “Angel Investment and Hong Kong Entrepreneurship,” the event attracted almost 500 guests who enjoyed a welcoming address from Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rocky Tuan. Organised by the China Angel Investor Club, it was supported by CUHK Business School and featured a range of speakers, including Business School Dean Prof. Kalok Chan. CBK Luncheon Series Explores the World of Financial Analysis
The fifth edition of CBK Luncheon Series, “Understanding China’s Institutions and the Role of Government in the Business World,” took place on 19 April and was attended by members of the business community, media professionals and alumni. The rapt audience enjoyed listening to Prof. Zhang Tianyu, Professor of the School of Accountancy and Director of the Centre for Institutions and Governance, who discussed his latest research on the ways institutional knowledge helps mainland financial analysts. Mr. Albert Ng, Chairman, China and Managing Partner, Greater China of EY, shared his valuable insights on the role of government and policies from the perspective of a seasoned business practitioner. London Calling for Capital’s CUHK Alumni
Earlier this month, Business School alumni living in London gathered together for a sumptuous dinner at the famous Min Jiang restaurant, situated in leafy Kensington Gardens. The get-together was hosted by Prof. Kalok Chan, Dean of CUHK Business School, and Prof. Angela Ng, Associate Dean for Global Engagement and External Relations. Retirement Community Visit for FMBA Alumni
At the end of March, a group of 39 alumni and students from the MBA Program in Finance (FMBA) paid a visit to Taikang Yue Garden Community as part of a series of corporate visits organised by the FMBA Shenzhen Student Association. They explored the excellent facilities offered by the Taikang Group, and spoke to management and residents alike about how the community provides a home from home, thanks to its pleasant surroundings, well-planned activities and superb accommodation. Seminar Series Examines Contradictions in Society

Our CUHK BBA Alumni Association-co-hosted seminar series takes an analytical view of some of society’s deep-seated contradictions and problems. In the latest instalment, held in March, we heard from Mr. Shih Wing Ching, Chairman and CEO of Centaline Group, about some of the inequality issues associated with capitalism. In what was an intellectually rigorous talk, Mr. Shih explored various issues around the subject, and helped raise awareness about poverty in our society. Read the report here.

A China's study by Prof. Zhang Tianyu shows that the mandatory rotation of audit partners enhances the audit quality of a firm. Prof. Lisa Wan comments on the research showing the relationship between self-esteem and consumers’ reactions to highly visible brands. A pioneer study by Prof. Cao Jie shows the impact of smart beta ETFs on investors’ evaluation on mutual fund performance.
