A Memorable Night at the Spring Cocktail

On 8 March, more than 250 guests attended the Spring Cocktail at the Island Shangri-La Hong Kong. Organised by the Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office, the annual event welcomed CUHK’s new Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rocky Tuan as the guest of honour. In addition to alumni and staff, guests from the worlds of business, government and academia also attended. During the evening, Business School Dean Prof. Kalok Chan announced the establishment of the Corporate Partnership Scheme, which aims to strengthen ties between the Business School and its corporate partners. Everyone’s Talking About Diversity
Diversity is a hot topic in today’s global marketplace. The fourth talk of the China Business Knowledge @ CUHK Luncheon Series was held on 22 March and attracted people from the business community, alumni and the media. Prof. Dora Lau, Associate Professor of the Department of Management, gave an insightful talk on the types of diversity that can cause challenges in the workplace and discussed how diversity can be managed to become a competitive advantage. Business School alumnus Mr. Alan Yip, Chairman and CEO of Guru Online, shared tips on managing millennials in the workplace. You can read the report here.
A Prescription for Change
Dr. Fan Ning (MBA in Health Care 2009) is a remarkable man. Besides serving as the Associate Consultant of Yan Chai Hospital’s surgical department, he has worked with the Hospital Authority for 20 years and often participates in humanitarian work overseas. He also established two NGOs: Health in Action champions healthcare for impoverished communities, and Forget Thee Not empowers people to make end-of-life plans and promotes sustainable funeral services. CSR Conference Planned for May
The 11th annual CUHK MBA CSR Conference will be held at the Cheng Yu Tung Building on Tuesday, 8 May 2018. Asia’s largest student-led meeting of its kind, the conference has a storied history of preparing talented MBA students to adopt a global perspective while striving to make the world more sustainable. This year’s theme will be “CSR∞ : Sustaining CSR Indefinitely,” and over 200 guests, including NGO professionals and members of academia, will participate and discuss pressing issues related to corporate social responsibility. Taiwan-based Alumni Enjoy Festive Fun

On 24 February, nearly 100 CUHK Business School faculty members and alumni celebrated Chinese New Year in the Regent Taipei ballroom. The dinner was the first alumni gathering in Taiwan co-organised by the CUHK Business School Taiwan Alumni Association and the Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office. Prof. Wong Suk Ying, CUHK Associate Vice-President, Prof. Kalok Chan, Dean of CUHK Business School, and Dr. Wei Jung-Tsung, Chairman of the Taiwan Alumni Association, raised their glasses for a toast before the guests enjoyed delicious Taiwanese cuisine and thrilling entertainment. Taking Time for Senior Citizens
A team of alumni and elderly volunteers shared lunch before visiting senior citizens living in Shamshuipo housing estates on Sunday, 4 March. This undertaking was organised by the Ho Kin District Community Centre in partnership with the CUHK Business School BBA Alumni Association. The volunteers presented the senior citizens with gift packs containing Chinese New Year treats, including gloves, socks and food. The half-day event truly demonstrated alumni’s enthusiasm for giving back to society. Many happy memories were made during the day and the volunteers had a wonderful time helping those in need. The Role of Government in the Business World
The next China Business Knowledge @ CUHK Luncheon Series talk will be held on 19 April at CUHK Business School Town Centre. Our speakers will share and discuss a pertinent topic, “Understanding China’s Institutions and the Role of Government in the Business World”. Prof. Zhang Tianyu, Director of the Centre for Institutions and Governance, will share his findings regarding the influence of institutional knowledge on financial analysts’ predictions in China. Mr. Albert Ng, Chairman, China and Managing Partner, Greater China of EY, will offer his tips on managing the impact of political and policy changes on business. Hiking for a Good Cause
The MBA Alumni Association brought together a team of MBA graduates and their families to join the Orbis Walk for Sight 2018 on Sunday, 4 March in support of charity! The event began at Hong Kong International School and energetic MBA walkers took a 10k route, making their way through beautiful Tai Tam Country Park. At the end of their three-hour trek, they enjoyed a carnival with their families. All funds raised will go toward helping blind children. Please read more details here.
