Fintech Forum for Beijing Alumni

In early December, Business School alumni in Beijing and faculty members attended the “Fintech Forum cum Dean’s Welcome Dinner” at the luxurious Ritz-Carlton Beijing, Financial Street. A whole host of speakers took to the stage to share their views on various aspects of fintech, with the highlight being a keynote speech on the theme of “AI and Financial Markets”, delivered by Prof. Michael Zhang of the Department of Decision Sciences and Managerial Economics. This was followed by a lively panel discussion, after which attendees took part in a networking dinner. Please click here to view the report and photo album.

Exploring the Impact of Technology on Consumer Behavior

The third seminar of the China Business Knowledge @ CUHK Luncheon Series featured two experts, Prof. Shen Hao from the Department of Marketing and alumnus Mr. Adrian Tam from Octopus Holdings Limited, who shared their insights into how technology is influencing the way we behave as consumers. Both speakers focused on how digital technology in particular is having the most impact, and attendees were given some fascinating case studies, including about the power virtual reality has on our decision-making process. Master’s Degree (2016-17) Graduation Ceremony:
Honing the Senses

Overcoming challenges and making a positive impact on the world are, in many ways, one aspect of undertaking postgraduate studies. So when Mr. Albert Ng, Chairman, China and Managing Partner, Greater China, Ernst & Young, addressed this year’s Master’s graduates, their proud friends and families, and faculty members during his keynote speech, he explained the “five senses” we need to empower ourselves on life’s journey. Attendees also heard from Ms. Amanda Xu, a new graduate of the MSc in Finance Program, before taking happy photos of classmates and creating memories set to delight for years to come. Christmas Comes Early for Underprivileged Kids
CUHK’s MBA Alumni Association helped create a special Christmas for 30 underprivileged children at the Financial Secretary’s official residence on 16 December. With the support of local charitable NGOs, 15 alumni volunteers spread the spirit of love by creating an action-packed day for the children. Financial Secretary Mr. Paul Chan, himself an MBA alumnus, was on-hand to meet the kids as they entered the stunning building. The activities included game booths, a magic show, and a delicious buffet lunch in the garden, as well as an interesting dim sum cooking session. Click here to read more about this meaningful event.
Memorable Moments for PACC Alumni
Back in November, the Professional Accountancy (PACC) Program organized a wonderful alumni gathering at the Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel. Prof. Zhaoyang Gu, Director of the School of Accountancy, delivered the opening remarks before Prof. Jacky Chau gave an insightful speech titled “Accounting x Big Data”, which was followed by an enjoyable dinner. Please view the photos and video of this inspiring evening here on PACC’s Facebook page.
Discover the Latest Issue of CONNECT
This issue features two interesting pieces of research: the first is on how individual auditors affect audit quality, and the second explores the effect of using white space in marketing communications. Given that China has made unprecedented investments in R&D, we also discuss whether the prosperous years of development will translate into technological innovation. Lastly, one of our alumni shares how she has become a successful entrepreneur by remaining humble and sincere.
