A Successful First-time Event for Alumni in Shanghai
On 25 August, the Park Hyatt Shanghai welcomed more than 120 alumni and faculty members to connect over exquisite cocktails and a stunning view of the Huangpu River. Co-organised by the Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office and CUHK Business School Shanghai Alumni Association, the first-ever networking event demonstrated a strong team spirit among the close-knit alumni community in Shanghai. From Primary School Teacher to Top Banker
John Chu (MBA, 1974) lives from the heart. He began his career as a primary school teacher and, at one point, taught future CUHK Provost Prof. Benjamin Wah! The new skills and knowledge he gained from the MBA enabled him to switch to the finance industry. He joined the Bank of America for 19 years and then served as Group Chief Investment Officer at AIA Company Limited for more than 22 years before retiring. Proving anything is possible, he attributes his success to compassion, determination and perseverance, and believes his duty is to foster the next generation. MBA Alumni Association Celebrates Its 20th Year
More than 120 MBA alumni and friends gathered at the World Trade Centre Club Hong Kong on 8 September for a fabulous sit-down dinner in celebration of the Association’s 20th Anniversary. The evening was full of warmth and cheer, and guests were particularly interested in the topic of the keynote speech, “Seizing Opportunities in the Greater Bay Area”, presented by Guest of Honour Mr. James Lau, Acting Financial Secretary and Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury. Harnessing the Power of Video Marketing

A workshop co-organised by Google and Madcradle Online and supported by the Business School was held on 12 July. More than 70 alumni learned effective strategies for using YouTube as a marketing tool at the “Google Partners Digital Bites: YouTube's Video Marketing Strategies” workshop. Experts shared valuable insights on the world of online video and gave participants key strategies for reaching new customers. Ms. Florence Lai, the Alumni and Corporate Affairs Director, is happy with the positive feedback, stating: “We will continue collaborating with leading companies and creating new opportunities to engage with our alumni.” Read more here.
Learn the Latest Trends in HR
Join the panel session entitled, “The New ‘HR Tech’ Challenge and the Future of Work: Is HR Ready for Its Digital Transformation?” on 12 October at METTA, organised by the French Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong. Ms. Stephanie Villemagne, Associate Dean of Graduate Programs and Director of MBA Programs, will serve on the panel along with several industry professionals, sharing her expertise and experience on the subject. Bringing Mid-Autumn Festival to the Elderly
Run to Your Home, a social enterprise established by CUHK EMBA alumni, organised a party on 16 September to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival with elderly citizens. Thanks to 50 energetic volunteers and the partnership of the H.K.S.K.H. Western District Elderly Community Centre, the elderly enjoyed a day of fun and laughter together, and experienced the true meaning of community. This year, the Business School welcomed more than 800 local and international undergraduates, most of whom achieved outstanding results in public examinations and other areas.
